Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question? Someone else may have already asked us the same thing, so you are not alone! Below are some of the queries that we’ve encountered before. Select from one of these categories. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, just drop us an email.

Shopping

I'm looking for a specific item, how can I find out if you have it and where it’s located?

Your best bet is to visit our stores regularly. We receive thousands of items daily and because each item in our store is unique, we’re unable to track specific merchandise availability.

Can I purchase items online?

We only sell merchandise through our stores.

Can I exchange my items?

Here’s our exchange policy:
Clothing, accessories and small household items may be exchanged within 7 days of purchase provided the item has the original tags attached and the customer has a receipt of purchase. The exchange must take place on the same day in order to receive the dollar value paid for the original item. It is at the discretion of store management to issue a 7-day extension if the customer cannot find items of like value to exchange (this may occur with a larger dollar amount purchase), but it is only an exception to the rule. We do not provide cash refunds. If an item was purchased at a discounted price, the dollar amount spent is eligible for exchange only—not the original price of the item.
All sales are final on select items including furniture, other large items (such as sporting equipment), computers, computer accessories, books, music and videos.

I saw a great item in your recent ads. Where can I get that item?

Because every item in our store is one-of-a-kind and we receive thousands of unique treasures daily, what you saw in our ad was a sample of our selection.

I have a bunch of great stuff that’s hardly used. Will you buy it from me?

We do not buy goods from the public directly. Instead, we gladly accept your donation on behalf of the local nonprofit organization with whom we partner in your market. We pay local nonprofits every time you drop off a donation at one of our Community Donation Centers. Because we pay them based on the volume of goods we receive, the more you donate, the more money they get for their programs and services.

Can I put some items in your store on consignment?

We do not sell on consignment.

Company

Who owns Savers/Value Village? Are you publicly traded? What is your stock symbol?

We are a privately held company with two primary owners, Tom Ellison, the son of our founder, and a private equity firm co-headquartered in New York and Los Angeles.

Can I invest in Savers/Value Village or buy a franchise?

We own and operate all of our stores as a chain and do not offer franchise opportunities.

I don't see stores in every U.S. state. Why can't I find a local Savers/Value Village?

You can find Savers© stores in 21 US states and our Value Village stores in Washington state, Oregon & Alaska, so you can currently find us in 24 states. There are many thrift stores in other U.S. states that use the Value Village name but aren’t related to our chain, like those in Maryland, New Jersey & Alabama, among others.

We also operate as Value Village across Canada, Village des Valeurs in Quebec and we have 6 Savers stores in Melbourne, Australia. Check out our store locator for your nearest store's address, phone number and opening hours.

Employment

I see that you’re opening a store in my city. How can I apply for a job?

Visit the store for hiring fair information. You may also submit an application online by clicking on the Careers link, or print and fill out an application then take it directly to the store where you'd like to apply.

Donating

I have some large items that I don't need anymore and I'd like to donate them. Will you come pick them up?

Many of the nonprofits we support can arrange pick up from your home to our store. Click here to find out who and how.

I have several bags of things to donate. When can I bring my items to your stores? Can I bring them to any Savers/Value Village? Do I need to make an appointment?

We will gladly accept your donation at any of our locations during regular business hours. Go to Find Your Store to locate the store nearest you. Come on over, no appointment is necessary.

What percentage of your profits are paid to the nonprofit organizations?

We do not pay our partners based on our profits, so their income is predictable and not dependent on our sales revenue. We contract with each of our nonprofit partners individually, purchasing goods from them in bulk at an agreed upon rate. The details of those contracts are confidential, but when we negotiate our rates, we assure that the rate we pay them is higher than what they would get selling the goods on the open market or to other resellers. The funds that we pay our nonprofit partners are an unrestricted and reliable source of funding for their local community programs.

I had a scheduled pick up and no one showed up. What now?

First, contact the nonprofit itself. Also, check to be sure you’re located in a state where we do business and keep in mind that we are a for-profit organization and do not solicit, so if you received a call from a Value Village for a donation, it’s not related to our Savers or Value Village chain.

Can I get a receipt for my donation?

When you donate at our U.S. stores, ask our associates for a tax receipt, which we provide on behalf of our nonprofit partners. If you had a pick up at your home and did not get a receipt, contact the nonprofit who you donated to directly. Canadian donors: Used items donated in Canada are not tax deductible.
